Chesterfield - 26th April 2025

On returning from the Appleby and Froddingham Railway following a tour of the British Steel Plant at Scunthopre, we paused at Chesterfield in order to have a break before returning south. Our visit to this location was on a Saturday evening. Local Norther services and Intercity services operated by both East Midlands Railway and Cross Country were captured on Saturday 26th April. With the introduction of new Hitachi built trains the Meridian Class 222 units soon to end their dedicated route to London St Pancras and will leave this route for the first time since being built. Some will go to Scotland to replace the aging HST fleets and others will be taken on by open access operators. This will see the fleet split for the first time since being built. 2025 is a good time to record the Class 222 on the Midland Mainline route.
