North Staffs Junction - 8th May 2026

Picture
Stenson Junction/ North Staffs Junction, alongside the Trent and Mersey Canal, is always a busy and interesting location to photograph railway services. Stenson Junction and North Staffs Junction form a critical, highly active rail bottleneck located in South Derbyshire near Willington. These closely linked junctions handle a dense, fascinating mix of heavy freight and fast passenger services where the historic Midland Railway and North Staffordshire Railway corridors converge. Any visit to this location often provides colourful and interesting workings, with trains operating on the Derby - Birmingham mainline, Castle Donington Line, and North Staffordshire lines.  My Visit on the 8th May was part of a longer trip which provided an ideal 'stop off' location on route further north.

🌈 Pride Trains 🌈

Every UK Railway company has its version of a 'Pride' train; in an odd twist of fate, both Cross Country Trains and East Midlands Trains 'Pride LGBTQ+' units turned up at North Staffs Junction within eight minutes of one another. These trains are always colourful and provide an additional splash of colour to the network, as well as conveying their important message.
