Great Western Mainline - Cholsey & Didcot, 14th April 2014
Cholsey is located a few miles to the east of Didcot on the Great Western Mainline between Bristol and London Paddington. The bridge at Cholsey Manor Farm provides good views of the four track mainline heading to and from London. The area is about the undergo a huge transformation with the announcement of the overhead electrification. The purpose of this visit was to record the unspoilt vista of the location before contractors arrive to install foundations, gantries and wires throughout.
The quiet bridge at Manor Farm provides good views to the east and west and is popular with photographers. Freight and Passenger services provide an almost unbroken service throughout the day. The route plays a kee part in linking the London & the south to the north and west of the UK and carries a large amount of freight along the route. The gallery below records the scene on the 14th April 2014 as preparation work for the GWML upgrade had already begun.
