Isle of Man - Horse Trams

Picture
The Isle of Man Horse Tramway runs along the Douglas Promenade between Derby Castle and Ferry Terminal. A distance of 1.6 Miles. Horses are are rotated during the day to provide adequate rest and exercise periods. After a recent campaign the Government have committed to keeping the Horse Trams operating and there are now plans to relay the tracks (which were last replaced in 1937) and refurbish the horse accommodation block. There are also plans to remodel the  seafront road to allow more passing places for traffic to pass the slower moving Horse Trams. Services operate approximately every twenty minutes depending upon traffic levels on the sea front.
Travel on the Horse Trams is covered on the Isle of Man 'Go Explore' card which is valid across most transport links on the Island.
