Manchester Metrolink
Manchester Metrolink is one of the biggest light rail networks in the UK, its system length is 57 miles long, with 93 stations. Metrolink currently operates a fleet of 120 Bombardier Flexity M5000 trams which is the third generation of trams to operate on the route. The Metrolink systems is also one of the oldest having started operating in 1992, since then it has gone from strength to strength and now links towns such as Eccles, Altrincham, Buy, Rochdale, East Disbury and Ashton-under-Lyne, as well as providing a secondary rail link to Manchester Airport. The system has been planned to create a central hub linked to the centre of Greater Manchester, where all trams on all lines pass through the central part of the city via seven operational lines/ routes.
Metrolink has seen considerable growth and use since it's phased introduction, and now forms a critical part of the Manchester transport network. |
2024
Because of a broken point section near Manchester Victoria services on this occasion were terminating at Exchange Square providing the rare opportunity to capture trams on the north side of the station departing. Manchester Metrolink Tram No.3079 stands ready to depart with an Exchange Square - East Didsbury service on the 8th March 2024.
