The East Somerset Railway - April 2022

Picture
The East Somerset Railway is located at Cranmore Station and runs for a couple miles. The railway is best known for its association with famous painter David Shepperd who had two of his locomotives based at the line.  BR 9F No.92203 'Black Prince' and 4MT No.75029 'The Green Knight'. The line has a small branchline feel and and operates a small fleet of locomotives as well as taking on sub contract restorations of locomotives for other steam railways. The railway is also home to The Sentinel Diesel Group who look after a small fleet of former industrial locomotives.

West Pennard - Cider Farm

Picture
.Formerly ARC Whatley Quarry No. 2. Rebuilt as a Diesel Hydraulic from a Sentinel vertical boilered steam locomotive (possibly S9367) by Thomas Hill at its Vanguard Works in 1964, retaining the frame, running gear and some of the bodywork. It has done the rounds of several heritage railways, including the North Somerset Railway at Radstock (evicted), the East Somerset Railway (evicted), short notice at the Pontypool and Blaenavon and at least one other private site. It arrived in West Pennard on 4th September 2020 and while the colour scheme isn't for the faint hearted. It is pictured a Pilton on the 10th April 2022.

Mk3a RFM 10258. Built as RFB 10023 at Derby in 1980 and converted to an RFM and renumbered 10258 in 1984. In 2005 it was purchased by the Somerset & Dorset Railway for use as a static buffet at Midsomer Norton Station. Made redundant by the arrival of Mk1 Buffet, it arrived in West Pennard on or around 13th August 2021. The RFM coach was moved to it's new home on a Cider Farm not far from West Pennard station thus continuing at least the geographical association with the S&D. It will eventually be used to provide refreshments for visitors to the Cider Farm.
